Indivisible

  • Fenimore Art Museum Cooperstown, NY 13326

A candid and compelling chronicle of three immigrant families—undocumented émigrés to the United States whose experiences were recorded over a number of years by director Hilary Linder—focuses on three young adults who were effectively caught in the crosshairs when, as young children, their parents were deported back to their home countries of Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia respectively while they stayed on in America to make their own way.  Relating their often gripping first-person tales with a balanced measure of empathy, intimacy, and objectivity, Indivisible reveals details of the families’ motives for leaving their native land, problems of adjustment, aspects of daily lives, struggles with rigidly bureaucratic agencies, and finally, as these young people mature, their unflinching determination to improve a convoluted immigration system.  (Hilary Linder, 78 minutes, 2016)
