Windshield, a large and handsome house that once stood on Fishers Island, New York, was modernist architect Richard Neutra’s first East Coast commission, designed for John Nicholas Brown II (scion of the Brown family of Rhode Island) and his wife Anne—grandparents of filmmaker Elissa Brown. Not only an account of an iconic house and its eventual demise, Windshield: A Vanished Vision is also a study in family lore and legend told through home-movie footage, interviews, and audio recordings of Elissa Brown’s family members, including her father J. Carter Brown, a prominent museum director and well-known champion of access to the arts for everyone.  (Elissa Brown, 2016, USA, 47 minutes)
