Last week I mentioned that before Glimmerglass Film Days begins, we will be having a pre-festival screening. I’m beyond excited to finally reveal the film.
We will be screening the critically acclaimed The Music of Strangers!
Directed by Morgan Neville, who helmed the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, The Music of Strangers follows world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble as they travel across the globe with their unique collection of musicians. The film highlights the various, diverse cultures represented in the Silk Road Ensemble and how their sacrifices and hopes influence the group’s goals and how they hope to connect mankind through music and the arts.
This documentary also focuses on the way in which “art can both preserve traditions and shape cultural evolution” for the benefit of all. Neville’s deeply personal documentary fits perfectly with this year’s theme of “Against The Odds,” showing resilience and persistence through the stories of artists who have overcome various obstacles.
We’re also excited to announce that we will be partnering with the great folks at the Glimmerglass Festival — who bring world-class opera and musical theatre every summer to the Cooperstown area — for this unique event. Screening The Music of Strangers in the Alice Busch Opera Theatre will underscore the important role that music plays in our communities, both local and global, as well as the connection between music and film. This is a rare opportunity to experience cinema in a unique venue that both locals and tourists, film and music lovers will enjoy.
Make sure you mark your calendars for this special screening, taking place on Thursday, September 15th. While the date is set, the time is still to be determined, but like our Facebook page and check into the official Glimmerglass Film Days website to keep up to date with further festival news.
