Post Screening Discussion

with filmmaker, Thomas Piper

Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf is one of the leading figures in the New Perennial movement, a recent trend in garden design encouraging the planting of  herbaceous perennials and grasses to convey a naturalistic, casual appearance—a philosophy that evokes a more direct link with nature. Tom Piper’s striking documentary surveys the work of this prominent designer who, among many high profile public and private assignments, was commissioned to design the landscapes for Manhattan’s High Line, the elevated linear park fashioned from a former New York Central Railroad spur. Oudolf leads an engaging and thought-provoking passage through five seasons, talking about his designs and sources of inspiration while visiting his iconic works in far-flung locales.
