Post-screening discussion with

Filmmaker Thomas Bena

In recent years on tiny Martha’s Vineyard the number of outsized “trophy” homes has been on the rise, placing in jeopardy, many would argue, the island’s unique historic character. Twelve years in the making, Thomas Bena’s One Big Home is constructed like a journal, a personal mission to try to figure out this trend toward bigger houses. Bena is not only a filmmaker, he is also a carpenter who has lived on the Vineyard for decades, and at various stages throughout the process of making his film, he turns to his own house rebuilding project. His debates about what to do—whether to tear down, restore, overhaul, go larger or smaller—provide some of the more surprising and revealing parts of his movie. All kinds of people become his subjects, and some are amazingly candid and contemplative on the topic of building, architecture, zoning, and community spirit. (Thomas Bena, 2016, USA, 88 minutes)

$7 tickets available at the door.
