New Films + New Events!

Wow, we're less than a month away from Opening Night! If you're as impatient as I am, there will be two more pre-festival events coming this month to keep you satiated until November. On October 16th, there will be a screening of the inspirational documentary Rising From Ashes, which chronicles the formation and personal story of Rwanda's first national cycling team. The athletes who survived the horrific Rwandan genocide in the 1990s overcome their traumatic experiences and come together, inspiring their nation and a new hopeful generation. The screening will be on October 16th at 2:00 PM at The Farmers' Museum. (Check out the trailer here)

On the same day, the Otsego Regional Cycling Advocates (ORCA) will be hosting a group bike ride, which will lead two groups around Otsego Lake. Providing a scenic tour as well as a nice work out, it will be an opportunity to not only take in Cooperstown's beautiful autumnal landscapes, but connect audiences to the film in a physical way. The event will go for about two hours, from 9:30-11:30 AM. (Meet at the Clark Sports Center at 9:15 AM if you'd like to participate.)

We also have made a last minute addition to the Glimmerglass Film Days schedule. On November 13th at 1:15 PM, Hilary Linder's short feature Indivisible will screen at the Fenimore Art Museum. This film sheds light on a timely issue that ties in perfectly with our theme of "Against The Odds," highlighting the lives of three documented immigrant families (from Mexico, Colombia and Brazil). The documentary focuses specifically on how the deportation of parents affects the children who are left behind in the United States.

Take some time to review the great line-up Film Days curator Peggy Parsons has brought together for us. Glimmerglass passes as well as tickets are now on sale (Click here to purchase)

One last thing: In honor of Sharon Jones, the dynamic soul singer who is the subject of our inspiring opening film Miss Sharon Jones!, her band the Dap Kings and other friends will take part in this weekend's Lustgarden Foundation's Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Walk. You can support their efforts to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. Find out more here
