Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda follows the creative process of pianist and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto after the typhoon and nuclear meltdown at Fukushima. A prolific composer, Sakamoto’s career has spanned four decades, excelling in disparate genres from techno-pop to film scores. After Fukushima, Sakamoto became an iconic figure for a very different reason—his activism in the social movement against nuclear power. Following a cancer diagnosis, Sakamoto returns to his career in music, creating a new masterpiece. The documentary presents a portrait of the artist trying to grapple with humanity’s relationship with nature, and also reimagining what he hopes to leave behind in this world as his legacy.
