Chris King is one of the country's best-known collectors of vintage 78 records (an entire chapter in Do Not Sell At Any Price details his obsession). Living in rural Nelson County, Virginia, King is now getting fed up with encroaching development. In Paul Duane’s documentary While You Live, Shine, Duane immerses his audiences in King’s life, and in one of the oldest forms of Western music, using King’s record collection. His favorites belong to the distinctive, melancholy, traditional violin music of Greek Alexis Zoumbas. These folk recordings, mostly from the early 1900s, haunt and transport the listener to a bygone time and place. The title of the documentary references the Seikilos song, one of the few preserved compositions of ancient Greek music. King travels to Epirus, Greece to experience the music first hand at a remote gathering where Greeks come together every summer to play, dance, eat, love, and sing to the transcendental music.
